So here's what I will say about disney and universal. I believe that the play Universal making with Epic universe and the card they are starting to play with (nintendo) wont only be a checkmate for orlando but the entire theme park industry. (at least on the U.S front).. (this is coming from someone who swears by Disney and currently has annual passes to Disneyland in CA.) and thats their new found access to the largest ip in the world. Pokemon, and the perfect timing of quite litterally everything. Pokemon is about to enter its 30th anniversary with an upcoming game of pokemon Legends Z-A and potentially generation 10 come 2026. Universal has already begun toying with Pokemon in the japan park and is already selling pokemon merch alongside mario and yoshi. It honestly wouldnt suprise me if Universal and pokemon came out during a pokemon presents and gave us hints of pokemon coming to florida/ and japan (hopefully California as well if they are smart with it.) With the upcoming contract of Simpsons ending. (which in all the parks it exists seems to be a pretty decently large land) They would be able to replace it with an IP that Disney quite litterally cannot compete with. Mix this with the stellar themeing of Epic Universe and the amount of effort they are putting into the parks. Pokemon could kill disneys reign in the U.S (and maybe japan although thats debatable cause disneysea is actually a good park and what disney should be worldwide.) Honestly the only chance I can see Disney having against Epic Universe will be Disney Forward in california (pressuring the calfiornia Universal to do something big) and the possible 5th park expansion. But is unlikely that either of these will even have something to show for it for at minimum another 5 years. Meaning that Universal (at least for this first 5 years) will be in the lead and possibly even planning their next strike with IP's like pokemon. Although Idk maybe its just cause im a pokemon super nerd but I truly believe that pokemon could kill Disney if done properly. Which universal has shown time and time again that it can.

10:00 Apparently the Wii (2006-2013) didn't exist and Nintendo didn't suffer in the 2010s because of the Wii U (2012-2017) with the resurgance being in the 2020s with the Switch (2017-Present as of writing this, though its successor will be announced this year).

You know the funny thing is that Universal is the only Hollywood media conglomerate to _not_ have a sing;e Fortnite collab (that includes Fox before it got bought by Disney BTW)

Me, a Californian: Can we just get more of Florida's theme park stuff please? We don't need (but absolutely want) Epic Universe, just the other extra stuff form Orlando. I know Disney lost their tax district over there but that doesn't mean they should invest in metaverse, that means they should invest in expanding over here... What was stopping Disney from putting the money they put into Fortnite into expanding over here?

Only worried new portals would be hard to make, maybe chaining them together like a normal park but idk

All of this is great, except the part about shanghai disney and the chinese market. Universal beijing is the most poorly rated high-budget park in the world. There are nearly 22million people in beijing creating a supply of customers so great that quality is allowed to be terrible with the park still always being full. I live in China, and have been to these parks. This statement is true in japan, but so far from it in china. Don't believe me? google what the back of elsa's ice palace looks like from toy story land in HK disney, or just watch a POV of the king fu panda dark "ride" from universal beijing.

I went in January with my partner who has no nostalgia for anything in either park except simpsons/jurassic park. They preffered disney because the overall experience seemed better and more consistent. But we liked both. I think epic universe is going in the right direction, but the idea that disney is now terrible is not true for people who are new to it.

Disneyworld's most recent new attractions are mediocre at best.

I think they screwed up by tearing down the actual mountain.. that mountain was iconic to kings dominion and had held so many different great attractions throughout the years.. I would’ve preferred seeing them keep the volcano/mountain and do a dive coaster into the volcano and call it ‘volcano II “the quest” ‘ or something.. hell maybe even a dive coaster with a launch somewhere in the second half.. I just think a wing coaster isn’t a great successor to that land plot where the theming element will probably never in a million years live up to what was and what has already been.. plus they already have dominator which is a great coaster that I think will be even better than any wing coaster they could do.

Disney's origins to where it is now, reminds me of the AAA video game industry. These days most of them have higher ups that care more about making money than making an enjoyable experience and it shows.

My family used to make a yearly trip to Disney, we loved it, it was the highlight of every year for us to go. Then we moved to Florida, I got my own annual pass, I went ALL the time. After covid, Disney was charging more for annual passes and offering less. I switched to a Universal pass and ive never been happier.

It is, without a doubt, the most baffling thing in theme park history that Disney, of call companies, let Universal get Nintendo. I mean - what? They worked with Nintendo in Japan, how did they let Universal get a Nintendo land with a Pokémon thing coming later? So, like, not just one and done - but like, there will be more Nintendo down the line - with one of the biggest gaming franchises ever being added next. After Epic opens, really - you go to Orlando for Universal and then do a day at Disney for specific rides.

People need to understand that Disney is focusing on the west coast in order to take out universal studios, since universal doesn’t have any room to grow out west, then they will focus on Florida. They will let universal have there moment out east til Disney returns with a flurry!

Literally came back frpm Universal studios hollywood 4 days ago and it was more magical to me than Disney parks ever were. The rides and experiences are more captivating to me and i love Disney parks but Universal has more to offer and pull from. Harry potter and Nintendo have to be the 2 best and most interactive places out of any park.

This is cool but always remember Universal Studios Hollywood is where it all started. Might not be the biggest park, but it is the most special.

With the amount of people I see at Disney World idk why they wouldn’t be pouring as much money as they could into their parks. Most people will go once every 5-10 years. If they were opening new rides/parks/etc yearly they would get more traffic then they already do. Plus it needs more parks because somehow each park is at capacity everyday. I go on a random weekday and the lines are still 30 minutes long and the weekends are 180 minutes for a single ride.

While I agree.. universal is not innovating abroad. They’re opening the exact same rides abroad. They’re being safe and not taking any risks with other parks. Disney sea and Beijing are insane.

It seems to me that as far as the Disney Theme Parks go the company is making 2 major mistakes. 1) Admission prices exceeds what regular people can pay, especially if it’s a family. And 2) for a long time now Disney has tried to do things on the cheap starting with maintenance and even with new things they tend to seem to try and make good enough instead of awesome because they think customers won’t notice or care. That leaves Disney trying to play catch up and it’s not working.

Anyone else feeling lukewarm on the Epic Universe lands? Nintendo is all well and good, but How To Train Your Dragon is an IP I don’t really hear anyone talk about anymore now that it’s trilogy is finished, Dark Universe is dead and only had one movie, and the author of Harry Potter has been drawing controversy and alienating a lot of fans over the past few years.

Whatever this is, I'm sure it will be better than Disney.

Tbf Fast and Furious Supercharged came out after Wizarding World. Universal hasn't been making all outstanding moves.

Came to see for myself. 3 days at universal parks and onsite resorts. They suck. 5 days wdw in onsite resorts. Terrific, awsome, fantastic experience just like always. Universal has a lot to learn from disney
